Madame Razz tells a group of children how She-Ra made Bright Moon safe. Shadow Weaver's attacks are draining Queen Angella's moon-fed magic ahead of an eclipse. The only hope is the Crystal Castle, and only Ahgo, King of the Trolls of Spikeheart, is said to have seen it. She-Ra goes to Spikeheart, is lassoed and challenged by the Trolls, and reaches Ahgo's throne, telling the Trolls she has no wish to fight. Ahgo cannot give the castle's location but tells her it is always where its seeker most wants it to be, in plain sight and never seen. As the moons go dark and Horde tanks gather at Bright Moon, She-Ra decides the castle is the cloud-capped mountain Sky Dancer, where its keeper Light Hope sends her to the Great Clock at the heart of the planet. She speeds up the pendulum, the moons shine again, and Angella's restored magic breaks Shadow Weaver's spell. Light Hope asks She-Ra to keep the castle's location secret, and Razz tells the children that she never has.
Loo-Kee: "Hi! It's me again...Loo-Kee. Did you find where I was hiding today? If not, take another look. See me now? Here I am! You know, sometimes just because a person looks or talks different, some people say bad things about them. That's really silly. Wouldn't it be a pretty dull world if we were all the same? Bye, now. See ya next time!"
Adora: "Oh, don't be so quick to believe what you hear, Spirit."
Ahgo: "You hated us, feared us, mistrusted us."
She-Ra: "I could easily free myself, and I'll prove it."
Light Hope: "I wish you to treat this castle as your personal haven."
How do you find a place that is hidden in plain sight? The Crystal Castle answers with a riddle rather than a map, and builds its whole run around the one way the riddle can be solved: She-Ra has to listen to someone she has been warned about. Madame Razz tells the story to four children on a log in the camp, and the frame is cosy, but the tale she tells is a trade in which a Troll king's trust buys a secret.
The first scene sets the terms. Queen Angella explains that Shadow Weaver's attacks are meant to wear down Bright Moon's magic. That magic is tied to the light of the Etherian moons, and an eclipse in a few days will leave the castle with none. Her one hope is a place Glimmer dismisses as "only a story." The only person said to have seen it is Ahgo, and the room is quick to tell Adora what Trolls are like: they hate everyone, especially humans, and Spirit adds that they eat horses. Adora's reply, "don't be so quick to believe what you hear," is the thesis, delivered inside five minutes and then tested for the rest of the running time.
The testing is the best of it. At Spikeheart the Trolls bind She-Ra in lasso bands and call her a liar, and she frees herself to prove she could have done it all along. The cave that follows is a run of obstacles in which she never strikes first: rocks that close in, and a figure of flame that calls her a puny mortal woman and gets a blast of water for it. Then she reaches Ahgo's throne and the episode slows down. He tells her the Trolls once offered to fight the Horde, were hated and feared by humans, and left for Spikeheart. She-Ra answers by asking whether she would be there alone if she mistrusted them. He cannot say where the castle is, because he promised its keeper, so he gives her its nature instead: always where the seeker most wants it, "in plain sight, yet never seen." Her later guess at the cloud-covered mountain Sky Dancer is a deduction paid for by that earlier scene, and Ahgo's faint face in the purple clouds as she flies is the script pointing back at it.
Shadow Weaver gets one image worth naming. She takes a golden model of Bright Moon on a tray from her servant, calls it a "pretty little toy," and floats it over a platter in her lair while the real castle weakens. When the moons come back, light bursts around the model and she recoils. It is clean staging: the threat has a physical stand-in, and the rescue shows up in it.
The weakness is the rescue itself. Light Hope says the Great Clock at the heart of the planet measures all time on Etheria and that She-Ra must make it run faster so the moons will shine again. That is the entire explanation. There is a guard of winged gargoyles to get past and a pendulum to swing on, and then the moons return. Nothing before Light Hope's speech prepared for a clock, and the stakes had been made of Angella's magic, so the fix arrives from outside the story. Set beside the Troll scene, which asks She-Ra for patience and trust, the clock asks her for a swing.
Even so, this is a tidy fable, and the closing frame makes secrecy the point: Razz tells the children She-Ra has never revealed where the castle is. Loo-Kee's moral about people who look or talk different fits the Trolls better than anything else in the episode, and the Trolls are the part worth watching.
- Continuity: Madame Razz places the tale "a little while after the Rebellion's first victory over the Horde," so the story is a flashback within the series.
- Continuity: The opening narration names Light Hope among the few who share Adora's secret and calls Adora defender of the Crystal Castle; here She-Ra speaks with Light Hope, who asks her to keep the castle's location secret from anyone who does not know her secret.
- Continuity: Ahgo says the Trolls offered to help against the Horde and were turned away by humans, and he and She-Ra part hoping that "Troll and human can be friends."
