Pilot: Why MOTU, Why Now

The pilot episode of the heman.org podcast. Why a new MOTU podcast in 2026, the editorial position, the topic backlog, and what the show is trying to do that nothing else in the community is currently doing.

This pilot episode sets up the editorial premise of the heman.org podcast and explains the gap in the existing fan-podcast ecosystem that the show intends to fill. MOTU is a remarkably well-served property in the podcast space. The MastersCast podcast has been running since 2014 with deep-cut episode coverage of the Filmation cartoon. The Roast Gooble Dinner podcast covers vintage collecting. Open Your Toys covers Power-Con news and modern toy releases. The Council of First Ones covers She-Ra. Yet there are still topics that none of those shows tackle in depth.

The heman.org podcast leans into the underserved topics. The European comics. The merchandise history. The unproduced toy concepts. The legal-rights complications behind why certain characters get rebooted while others stay buried. The production-side oral history with Filmation veterans, Mattel design alums, and licensee staff. The technical voice-acting craft. The cover-art studio interviews. The auction-market data on original art and prototype sales.

The editorial position is that Masters of the Universe is a continuous creative property that has been published, animated, toyed, comic’d, and merchandised continuously since 1982 across multiple media, multiple companies, and multiple creative regimes, and the fan community deserves a podcast that treats the property with the same depth of engagement that comparable fan communities (Star Wars, Star Trek, Marvel, DC, Doctor Who) routinely get from their respective podcast ecosystems.

The format is single-host, long-form, lightly edited. Episodes typically run 45 to 90 minutes. Guests will appear where appropriate (Filmation veterans, Mattel design alums, statue studio principals, comic creators) but the show is not built around weekly guest interviews. The host (Mark Sheard, site owner and operator of heman.org) brings 25 plus years of media-tech background to the production side and is the primary editorial voice.

The topic backlog stretches forty episodes deep. Pilot. Filmation at 40. Mark Hamill’s Skeletor. Collecting Vintage 1982-1988. Prince Adam No More. Granamyr Appreciation. Linda Gary Memorial. Larry DiTillio Showrunner Profile. The DC Mini-Comics 49-Issue Retrospective. The Eternia Playset Deep-Dive. The Marlena Glenn Mystery. The Matty Collector Era. The Snake Men 200X Arc. The 2018 Netflix She-Ra Reboot. Super7 vs Mondo vs Mattel. The 2026 Movie Preview. And so on.

Length: approximately 45 minutes.
