Vic Dal Chele: the Filmation storyboard artist interview

interview

Vic Dal Chele started at Filmation in 1972 on Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids, and by the time He-Man went into production in 1983 he was one of the storyboard artists turning scripts into shots. His boards run through the studio’s best years: He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, She-Ra: Princess of Power, Filmation’s Ghostbusters and BraveStarr. Away from Filmation he boarded the pilot of The Transformers (credited as Vic Dachele), worked on The Real Ghostbusters and C.O.P.S., and went on to direct Skeleton Warriors, RoboCop: Alpha Commando and episodes of Static Shock.

That range is the reason to sit through every part. A storyboard artist decides where the camera goes, how a fight is staged and how long a beat holds, which makes him one of the best people to ask how a Filmation episode actually got made, and how the studio’s way of working compared with the other houses he boarded for. cereal:geek recorded the conversation as a six-part series, embedded below in running order.
