The Masters of the Universe score gets a double LP on 8 January, and this one has a cart button

Lakeshore Records is pressing Daniel Pemberton's score as a gatefold double LP on orange flame vinyl for 8 January 2027. Amazon is taking pre-orders at $39.98, and the tracklist insert prints a Brian May credit the streaming release only implied.

The Masters of the Universe score gets a double LP on 8 January, and this one has a cart button
Masters of the Universe (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) double LP: gatefold sleeve, two orange flame discs labelled Side A and Side C, and three full colour inserts. Product photography: Lakeshore Records.

Lakeshore Records has put the Masters of the Universe album out three times since the film opened, and not one of them has reached a buyer as a physical record. The digital album landed in June. A digital deluxe edition followed in August, and a seven inch single has sat on the label’s own shop since the spring, but that single has never gone in stock. The double LP the label announced on 15 October is the first of the four to carry a street date, a price and a working cart button.

It arrives on Friday 8 January 2027, a two disc set on orange flame vinyl, housed in a gatefold sleeve with full colour inserts. Film Music Reporter carried the announcement with the format and the day, but without the year [1]. The Amazon listing supplies it, reading “This title will be released on January 8, 2027. Pre-order now.” and pricing the set at $39.98.

Lakeshore’s product photography shows the sleeve, the gatefold, the discs and the three inserts. The front sleeve runs the lightning shot under “Original Motion Picture Soundtrack” and “Music by Daniel Pemberton”. The gatefold opens on He-Man with the sword over his head, against a wash of purple and magenta. The discs are marbled rather than flat; their labels read Side A and Side C. Three inserts sit in front of the sleeve in the same shot: He-Man riding Battle Cat, the cast lineup with He-Man at the centre, and a tracklist insert printed over Castle Grayskull at dusk.

That tracklist insert puts a credit in print that the streaming release only ever implied. It runs the album across four sides, A through D, and it hangs two footnote markers off the titles. One marks the tracks performed by Daniel Pemberton with Brian May. The other marks the title song by The Darkness, which closes side D. Five titles carry the May marker. Our movie hub has had five since the film opened, so the pressing confirms that credit rather than revising it. Both halves of the footnote are already in our archive, too: we covered The Darkness recording the title song in May, and May’s own Legend of Eternia single in August.

The buy path is Amazon, and for the moment it is only Amazon. BigBadToyStore does not carry the record. A search there this morning for Masters of the Universe vinyl returns a single Marvel pin set, sold out. Lakeshore’s own shop ought to be the second place to look, but it has no listing for the LP at all. What that shop does have is the seven inch, the Double A side pairing the end credits track with Eternia, listed on 3 June at $15.98 with Brian May on the Red Special. It has read unavailable ever since, with mock up images where the sleeve art should be, and a description promising the record is due this fall without ever naming a day [2].

The seven inch said this fall back in June, and the fall is nearly out. The double LP named a Friday!
