Super7 vs Mondo vs Mattel: The Modern Collector Market

The three companies driving the modern MOTU collector toy market: Super7 (Ultimates! 7-inch line), Mondo (premium 1/6 scale figures), and Mattel Creations (Masterverse, Origins, Classics). How they differ, how they compete, and how to budget across the three.

The modern MOTU collector toy market has consolidated around three primary producers: Super7 (the Ultimates! 7-inch line), Mondo (premium 1/6 scale articulated figures at $200+ a piece), and Mattel Creations (Masterverse, Origins, Classics, and Eternia Minis). Each company occupies a distinct niche and the three together absorb almost every dollar that goes into MOTU collecting in 2026. This episode is the budget-planning conversation: how the three differ, how they compete, and how a collector with a finite budget should allocate.

Super7 occupies the mid-range premium tier. The Ultimates! line is 7-inch scale, super-articulated, with multiple swappable head sculpts, hand sets, and accessories per figure. The aesthetic is heavily Filmation-cartoon-styled. MSRP runs $55 to $75 per figure depending on accessory count. The line has shipped roughly 60 figures since 2018 across multiple waves, with figures generally selling out at the pre-order stage and seeing 50 to 100 percent secondary-market markup once delivered.

Mondo occupies the high-end premium tier. The 1/6 scale figures are 12 inches tall, fully articulated, with cloth costumes and metal weapons, hand-painted in small batches. MSRP runs $220 to $400 per figure, with timed editions and a 90-day pre-order window. The aesthetic is more grounded and realistic than Super7, with sculpts that lean more toward the original Mattel toy proportions than the Filmation cartoon. Mondo has shipped He-Man, Skeletor, Battle Cat, Teela, Man-At-Arms, Beast Man, Granamyr, and a small bench of supporting figures since 2019.

Mattel Creations covers everything else. The Origins line is mass-market retail, 5.5 inches, vintage-style sculpts at vintage-style price points ($15 to $30). The Masterverse line is 7-inch, more modern aesthetic with sculpting closer to the Powerhouse Animation Revelation designs ($25 to $50). The Classics line is the premium retro-Mattel reissue programme ($35 to $50). Eternia Minis is the budget keychain-format tier ($8 to $12). Mattel Creations direct-to-consumer also runs convention exclusives and high-tier “Designed By” collaborations at $50 to $200.

Budget allocation depends on collecting goals. A complete display of all three companies’ He-Man variants alone runs $1,200 plus. A Mondo-only collection focused on the 1/6 scale flagship pieces runs $3,000 plus for the first ten figures. A Super7 Ultimates! complete-set chase runs $4,000 plus across all waves shipped to date.

Length: approximately 65 minutes.
